Before and After: The Los Angeles Swimming
Stadium before and after the renovations were completed in Aug. 2002.
The Stadium, which is part of the EPICC property, features 2 swimming pools,
multi-purpose rooms, a health club and more
-- all open to the community.
The EPICC Center will be the site location for the International Black Writers & Artists Los Angeles 30th Anniversary Conference & Workshops. Completed a year ago, this new pillar in the community has changed South Los Angeles, also known as District Eight (Councilmember Bernard C. Parks). Community members of all ages flock to this multi-million dollar renovated recreation center for computer courses, art classes, meetings, physical fitness, exhibitions and festivals.
Located at 3980 South Menlo Avenue in Los Angeles' Figueroa St. Corridor, the center is located in the complex adjacent to the University of Southern California, the California Science Center, the Natural History Museum, the California African American Museum, the beautiful Rose Garden and the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and Sports Arena which are EPICC's property.
The $30 million renovation included revamping the 1932 Olympic Swim Stadium, and remodeling the Spanish Colonial Revival Exposition Club House into a senior center. The now 80,000 square foot recreation center is the largest recreational facility in the City of Los Angeles.
The Exposition Clubhouse Senior Center BEFORE the August 2002 renovations were completed. The EPICC is in Los Angeles Councilmember Bernard Parks' eighth district. The new, remodeled Ahmanson Senior Center on the property is host to several programs and events for members of the community including June's Black Book Expo.
Not only is this year IBWALA's anniversary, but this summer also marks the 20th anniversary of the Olympic Games being held in our fair City of Los Angeles at this very location. HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!
IBWALA will make use of the center's Senior Complex, including the patio and the adjacent garden and amphitheatre. We will also host a portion of the conference and workshops in the Olympic Swim Stadium building including the Community Hall and several multi-purpose rooms.
The Ahmanson Senior Center and the Outdoor Amphitheatre where the IBWALA Poetry Slam will take place on Friday, Aug. 13.

Davidson Conference Center
This newly-renovated facility, located on the corner of Jefferson Boulevard and Figueroa Street, has set a new standard in conferencing with six state-of-the-art meeting facilities, unique services, such as the Complete Meeting Package, and fine cuisine. The Davidson Conference Center provides the ideal environment for executive meetings.

Enter at the Jefferson Boulevard Entrance at Royal Street (#4)
Open Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. through 7 p.m.
For all other times, including weekends, enter at the Jefferson Boulevard
Entrance at McClintock Avenue (#5), open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. From
this entrance turn left and drive the length of 34th Street. The parking plaza
will be on your left. Parking is $6.
Getting from Parking to the Venue
Exit the southeast corner of the parking plaza. The Davidson Conference Center
is located next and to the left of the parking plaza.
Disability Access
A ramp is located at the south entrance of the building. Restrooms are
accessible, as well as upper floors via elevator.
